European Trip - Italy in 2017

Terry Herron has just booked two back-to-back trips to Europe in June, somewhat similar to our approach to the rides we did last summer, and wanted to make the information available to you. We were looking for two different rides in Italy that could be done in sequence if desired. You can choose either one or both at your preference.

Our plan is to fly to Rome, take a bus or train to the beautiful town of Assisi for a 7-day ride. After that, we will travel to Florence for 2-1/2 days of food and art. From there, we'll take a train to Mantua and take a bike & barge trip through small towns to Venice.

If you are interested, please go to the Bike Tours web site and check out the two trips:

Trip #1: June 1 -- 7
www.biketours.com/Italy/Umbria-green-Valleys/

Trip #2: June 10 -- 17
www.biketours.com/Italy/Venice-to-Mantua

We chose the barge "Ave Maria", leaving from Mantua
to Venice. This trip is already 50% sold out, so prompt
action is desirable.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call or email me at 843/271-9919 or terry@herron-group.com, or call Bike Tours at 423/756-8907 and mention the Terry Herron group.

Bicycle Ambassadors Needed!

The Hilton Head Island Bicycle Advisory Committee is seeking individuals to help foster a welcoming environment and enhance safety on Hilton Head Island bike paths. Volunteer bike ambassadors provide directions, maps, safety tips and flyers to visiting cyclists.  Bike Ambassador volunteers will work primarily during the busy summer season from May 28 to August 6.

Volunteers should attend one of the 2-hour training sessions to be held on Wednesday, May 10, and Monday, June 5, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Fire Station #6 at the entrance to Palmetto Dunes.

Contact Carmin Oliver at vicepresident@kickinasphalt.info for information or to volunteer.

ABOUT US

KABC organizes and promotes safe group bicycle rides and holds social activities for our cyclists.

We were founded in September, 2006 and now have more than 180 members. We are a non-profit bicycle touring club open to cycling enthusiasts in and around Southern Beaufort County, South Carolina.

We are affiliated with the League of American Bicyclist and Palmetto Cycling Coalition of South Carolina.

Hilton Head Island has been recognized as one of the top 25 bicycle-friendly communities in the United States and one of 21 to achieve “Gold-Level” status for its commitment to being a bicycle friendly community. The Bicycle Friendly Community award was announced on June 10, 2015 by the League of American Bicyclists.

The Town of Hilton Head Island is the only Gold-Level community in the Southeast and only one of two on the East Coast, according to the League's list of award recipients.

We currently ride most Saturday mornings, starting at different locations around Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort. Rides usually range between 15 and 40 miles and average 12-18 mph, depending on the Ride Classification level.

Safety First! Fitness, Fun and Food to Follow...

We require helmets to be worn on all rides, we encourage brightly colored clothing and remember your water bottle!

We usually meet for lunch at a local restaurant following our rides. Come out and ride with us once before you decide to join our club. See you soon!

hhi gold awardThe League of American Bicyclists announced that Hilton Head Island had been designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) at the Gold level by the League of American Bicyclists, up from the silver level received four years ago. We are the only community in South Carolina and the entire Southeast to reach the Gold level, and one of only 21 nationwide.

This is a major accomplishment and we're honored to be part of such a community.
