The League of American Bicyclists announced on June 10, 2015 that Hilton Head Island had been designated as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) at the Gold level by the League of American Bicyclists, up from the silver level received four years ago. We are the only community in South Carolina and the entire Southeast to reach the Gold level, and one of only 21 nationwide.
This is a major accomplishment and we're honored to be part of such a community.

Hilton Head Island has been
recognized as one of the top 25 bicycle-friendly communities in the
United States and one of 21 to achieve “Gold-Level” status for its
commitment to being a bicycle friendly community. The Bicycle
Friendly Community award was announced on June 10, 2015 by
the League of American Bicyclists.
The Town of Hilton Head Island is the only Gold-Level community in the Southeast and only one of two on the East Coast, according to the League's list of award recipients.
We currently ride most Saturday mornings, starting at different locations around Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort. Rides usually range between 15 and 40 miles and average 12-18 mph, depending on the Ride Classification level.
